Biology is NEET's highest-scoring section — 360 marks. Our AIIMS-graduate tutors explain the exact NCERT strategy that gets students to 350+ without coaching centre shortcuts.
Biology accounts for 50% of the NEET paper — 90 questions, 360 marks. It is also the section where scoring 350+ is most achievable with the right approach.
1. Read NCERT Like a Researcher, Not a Student
Read every sentence of NCERT Biology — Classes 11 and 12 — with full attention. Underline key definitions, bold terms, and every number mentioned (percentages, chromosomal numbers, etc.). The exam tests NCERT with surgical precision.
2. Diagrams Are Worth 15-20 Marks
Every labelled NCERT diagram is fair game for the exam. Mitosis, Meiosis, Nephron structure, DNA replication — draw these from memory regularly. Visual recall saves time in the exam.
3. Chapter-Wise Importance (NEET Pattern)
High weightage chapters: Genetics and Evolution (12-14 questions), Plant Kingdom (8-10), Animal Kingdom (7-9), Human Reproduction (6-8), Ecology (8-10). These chapters alone account for 50+ questions.
4. Previous Year Questions — Do All of Them
Solve every previous year NEET Biology question from 2010 to 2025. Many questions repeat with slight modifications. Pattern recognition alone can get you 60-70 marks.
5. Assertion-Reason Questions Need Extra Attention
NEET Biology loves assertion-reason type. The correct approach: evaluate the assertion, evaluate the reason, then determine if the reason correctly explains the assertion. Practice these separately.
