Stop studying hard and start studying smart. This guide from IIT-qualified tutors breaks down the JEE Main strategy that consistently produces top 1% scores.

Cracking JEE Main is not about studying 18 hours a day — it is about studying the right things with the right technique. Here is what our IIT-alumni tutors know that most students don't.

1. NCERT Is Your Bible — But It Is Not Enough

For JEE Main, NCERT forms approximately 60-70% of the Chemistry paper and 40% of Physics. Start every topic by mastering NCERT thoroughly before picking up any reference book. But for Mathematics, NCERT is just the starting point.

2. Topic-Wise Prioritisation Is Non-Negotiable

JEE Main has consistent high-weightage topics year after year. In Mathematics: Coordinate Geometry, Calculus, and Algebra together constitute 60%+ of the paper. In Physics: Mechanics, Electrostatics, and Modern Physics. In Chemistry: Organic Chemistry, Thermodynamics, and Mole Concept.

Study these topics first and study them to mastery.

3. Previous Year Papers Are Your Best Teacher

Solve the last 10 years of JEE Main papers — all four sessions per year. Analyse every mistake. You will start to see patterns in what is asked and how. The exam is more predictable than students think.

4. Mock Tests Every Week Without Fail

From 6 months before the exam, take one full mock test per week under strict exam conditions — 3 hours, no breaks, no phone. Then spend 2 hours analysing the paper. This is the most valuable study you will do.

5. Do Not Ignore Revision

Students spend 80% of time on new content and 20% on revision. It should be the opposite as the exam approaches. Use flashcards, formula sheets, and short notes for rapid revision.
